NYS paper exam vs the MBLEx
New York does not take the national computer test. If you studied like you were sitting MBLEx, you studied the wrong exam.
I still get emails from people who finished an MBLEx course, booked a Pearson slot in their head, and then found out New York does not care. Passing MBLEx does not let you work here. Passing the NYS exam does not travel the other way either. Two credentials. Two study plans.
The content split is the part that blindsides Western-trained students. About 20 of the 140 NYS items sit in Eastern / TCM territory: meridians, Five Element correspondences, yin and yang as applied theory. MBLEx barely touches that. If you skip it, you are volunteering a 14% haircut.

What that means for how you practice
Paper changes the psychology. You cannot tap a flag and jump around as cleanly as a computer screen. You need a pencil system and a clock. That is why this site has a timed paper mode instead of pretending a phone quiz is the same as March or September in Albany.
